Title: Jersey City, Don’t Back Down
So, let’s call this lawsuit from the Trump administration what it is: an attack on who we are. It’s an attempt to scare, bully, and make us back down from our values. But Jersey City, DON'T BACK DOWN!
As a candidate for mayor of Jersey City, let me be clear and direct: I stand with our people, our community, not with fear, not with pressure, and not with those trying to divide us.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” When families here are scared of being ripped apart, when kids are afraid to go to school, when someone is too frightened to call the police because of their immigration status, we are all in danger. That’s not the kind of city we are, nor the kind of city we will be.
Jersey City was built by immigrants, working families, and people chasing freedom. From the Dutch settlers in the 1600s to the enslaved Blacks who ran here for safety through the Underground Railroad during the 1800s to the generations of newcomers from around the world who made this city their home, WE ARE rooted in courage, resilience, and hope.
Being a sanctuary city does not make us weaker—it makes us stronger. Our sanctuary city policies build trust between the people and the government that resides here. Our sanctuary city policies protect families and keep communities together. We are all safer because of these policies.
I’m not here to play politics. I’m here to fight for justice.
As mayor, I will stand firm and protect every resident of this city, no matter where they were born. We don’t trade our values for votes. We don’t sell out our neighbors for approval. And we sure don’t let anyone come here and tell us to turn our backs on our own.
Jersey City, this is our moment. Let’s rise together, push back with pride, and show the world that we don’t get scared—we get stronger.
We lead with heart, unity, and purpose.
We will not be intimidated. We will not divide.
We are Jersey City—and we fight for everybody.
